VAT Calculator (Gross to Net)
Enter a tax-inclusive amount and a rate to split it into the net price and the tax portion. The calculation divides the gross price by 1 + rate, then reports the net, the tax and the gross, all to two decimals.
- Enter the amount you actually paid in Price incl. tax, then set the rate, for example 13.
- The result lists the net amount, the tax portion and the gross, each to two decimals.
- Change the rate and run it again to compare different brackets on the same price.
FAQ
How is this different from simply multiplying by the rate?
Multiplying adds tax to a net price. This tool runs the other way: it divides a gross price by 1 + rate to recover the net, then subtracts the net from the gross to get the tax. For the same net price, both approaches give the same tax.
Can I use the result for a tax filing?
No. This is an estimate for a single rate. It does not handle mixed rates, input tax credits, surcharges or invoice rounding rules, so rely on your invoicing system for an actual filing.
Why is the tax one cent off from my own calculation?
The tool keeps two decimals, while some systems round per line item or to whole units. Different rounding produces one-cent gaps; treat the invoice as authoritative.
