Unicode Escape Decoder

Turn four-digit \uXXXX escapes such as \u4e2d back into the characters they represent, which is handy for strings copied from logs, Java properties files, or JavaScript source. Only \uXXXX is recognized; \n, \t, \x41, and other escapes are left as they are.

How to use
  • Paste a string containing \uXXXX escapes.
  • Each four-digit escape is replaced with the character it represents.
  • Check the result; line breaks or quotes still written as \n or \" need separate handling.

FAQ

Does it support an uppercase U?

Only a lowercase u followed by four hex digits is recognized; eight-digit forms such as \U0001F600 are not converted.

Why did \n not become a line break?

This tool only handles \uXXXX. Other escapes such as \n, \t, and \x41 are left as they are.

Can it restore surrogate pairs?

Yes. Two consecutive escapes such as \uD83D\uDE00 each become their code unit, and together they form the original emoji.
