Tip Calculator & Bill Splitter
Work out a tip from the bill and a percentage, then split the total evenly between diners. Tip = bill × percent, total = bill + tip and each share = total ÷ people, with no adjustment for pre-tax versus post-tax tipping customs.
How to use
- Enter the bill, the tip percentage and the number of people; set the percentage to 0 for a plain split.
- You get the tip amount, the total with tip and each person's share.
- To tip on the post-tax total, enter the taxed amount as the bill.
FAQ
Why does the per-person share not divide evenly?
Amounts are rounded to two decimals, so a split that does not divide cleanly leaves a cent or two of rounding. When paying separately, round down and let one person cover the remainder.
Should the tip be on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Customs vary. In the US, 15–20% on the pre-tax amount is common, while many people tip on the taxed total. The tool does not decide for you; it uses whatever bill you enter, so the result is an estimate.
Can I include a service charge?
Yes, add it to the bill amount. The tool does not separate a mandatory service charge from a voluntary tip.
