Hourly rate converter
"Is a 15k monthly salary really worth it?" — convert it to an hourly rate and see; working overtime or not makes a big difference.
By default we assume 21.75 working days per month — that is (365 − 104 weekend days) / 12, the official monthly paid-days figure — and 8 hours a day. Note that 21.75 includes paid statutory holidays, so it is not the same as days actually worked. For actual attendance (13 statutory holidays from 2025), use (365 − 104 − 13) / 12 ≈ 20.67 days, which is closer to real working days.
If you actually work 10 hours a day, set “hours per day” to 10 and the hourly rate drops right away — that is the most useful thing this conversion does. When to use it
- You have a “15k a month, 13 months” offer and want the hourly and annual figures so you can compare it directly with a job paying 90 an hour for 7.5 hours a day.
- You want to work backwards from the hours you actually work — overtime, commuting, 996 — to see what the job really pays per hour.
When not to
- You need take-home pay: this is gross salary, before social insurance, housing fund, income tax and personal deductions, and it excludes bonuses, allowances and equity.
- You need statutory overtime or minimum-wage calculations: overtime bases, the 1.5× / 2× / 3× rules and regional rates are outside this tool.
Salary and hours are calculated in the browser only — never uploaded or stored, and cleared on refresh, because pay is private. Limits: gross monthly salary, with no social insurance, housing fund, income tax or personal deductions; no bonus, allowance or equity; 21.75 paid days and 8 hours a day by default, excluding overtime; use it for comparison, not as a payslip.
Frequently asked
Where does 21.75 come from, and why not 22 days?
It comes from China’s 2008 notice on average monthly working time and wage conversion (劳社部发〔2008〕3号): paid days per month = (365 − 104) ÷ 12 = 21.75, where 104 is the number of rest days. Public holidays are not worked but are paid (13 days from 2025), so they are not deducted. Daily wage = monthly ÷ 21.75; hourly wage = monthly ÷ (21.75 × 8) = monthly ÷ 174. The working-day figure is different: (365 − 104 − public holidays) ÷ 12, which was 20.83 with 11 holidays and is about 20.67 from 2025. Use it for attendance, not for the daily wage.
Does the hourly rate include overtime?
No. Under the 21.75 convention, the hourly wage is the normal-hours wage and excludes overtime. Overtime is paid separately at 1.5× on workdays, 2× on rest days and 3× on public holidays, usually based on the wage agreed in the contract and never below the local minimum wage. If you enter 10 hours a day, you get the effective hourly rate with overtime spread in, which is clearly lower than the contractual rate. Look at both: one checks your overtime pay, the other tells you what the job is really worth per hour.
Is this gross or take-home? Are bonuses included?
It is gross monthly salary, with no social insurance, housing fund, income tax or personal deductions. A 15k gross offer typically pays noticeably less after deductions, depending on the city's social-insurance base, the housing-fund rate and your deductions. Bonuses, a 13th month, allowances and equity are also excluded: the page shows annual ×12 and ×13, but the 13th month is just monthly × 13 and does not include a performance multiplier. To compare two offers, use the same basis — both gross, both with or both without bonus.
