Running Pace Calculator
Turn a distance and total time into average pace per kilometre, speed in km/h and the time a 5 km split would take. Pace is total time divided by distance, so hills, intervals and a fast start are not accounted for.
How to use
- Enter the distance in kilometres and the total time in minutes, for example 10 and 55.
- Pace is shown as minutes and seconds per kilometre, alongside speed in km/h and the time per 5 km.
- Change the distance to carry the same pace over to 5 km, 10 km or a half marathon.
FAQ
How is pace different from speed?
Pace is the time to cover one kilometre, so lower is faster. Speed is kilometres per hour, so higher is faster. They are reciprocals: 5:30 per km is about 10.91 km/h.
Why do I race slower than this?
This assumes even pacing. Crowding at the start, hills, wind, aid stations and fading in the second half all add time, and the effect grows with distance, so treat the result as an estimate.
Can it calculate interval splits?
No. It reports one average pace for the whole effort, without per-kilometre splits or run-walk cycles. Take splits with a watch and convert each one separately.
