Roman Numeral Converter
Convert Arabic numerals to Roman numerals using standard subtractive notation, such as IV for 4 and IX for 9, across 1 to 3999. The output is uppercase letters only, ready for copyright years, chapter numbers and episode labels.
How to use
- Enter a whole number, such as 2026.
- The result is its Roman form in uppercase letters, for example MMXXVI.
- A minus sign is preserved, 0 returns 0, and values above 3999 fall back to repeated Ms.
FAQ
Why is anything above 3999 not standard?
Standard Roman numerals have no symbol for 4000 and up; historically an overline marked thousands. Above 3999 the tool simply repeats M, so 4000 becomes MMMM, readable but not canonical.
What happens to decimals?
They are truncated, so 2.9 is treated as 2 and returns II rather than III.
Can I convert Roman numerals back?
No. This is one-way, from numbers to Roman numerals, and letters in the input produce a format error.
