PDF Page Numbers
Scans and merged files often lack page numbers — add them all in one pass.

Processed locally · No uploadIt uses the PDF standard font Helvetica,Use only digits and Latin letters. That's why page number formats are limited to these three; Chinese forms like "第 X 頁" aren't supported (that would require embedding a Chinese font and add several MB to the file).
When to use it
- You merged a dozen documents or scanned a stack of paper, and loose printed pages can no longer be put back in order without continuous numbers.
- A submission portal requires footer numbering, but the PDF you exported has no page numbers at all.
When not to
- You want to skip the cover and start numbering at the first content page — every page gets a number here, with no option to exclude the cover or specific pages.
- You need Chinese-style numbering such as 第 1 頁 / 共 10 頁 — the standard font has no CJK glyphs and only supports Latin letters, digits, and half-width punctuation.
Numbers are drawn locally by pdf-lib; the PDF is never uploaded and is cleared when you close the tab. Limits: English digits only (Helvetica has no CJK glyphs); every page is numbered, so covers and specific pages can't be excluded; existing numbers aren't detected and may overlap; encrypted PDFs can't be read. The original PDF stays untouched, so keep a copy of it.
Frequently asked
Why can't I write “Page X” and only use English digits?
The numbers are drawn with Helvetica, a PDF standard font that contains Latin letters, digits, and half-width punctuation but no Chinese glyphs. Chinese would require embedding a CJK font of several megabytes and would inflate the output, so the tool offers three formats: 1, 1 / N, and - 1 -.
The number is misplaced, clipped, or overlaps existing text — what now?
Numbers are drawn at least 18 pt from the edge (1.6× the font size when the font is large), so clipping is unlikely. On pages carrying a 90°/180° rotation flag, the number rotates with the whole page and may not sit where the footer appears; re-export such pages from software that truly applies the rotation first. If the footer already has content, the new number is drawn on top — switch position (bottom center, bottom left, bottom right, top center, top right) or reduce the font size.
Does the cover get numbered, and will running it twice stack numbers?
Yes on both counts. The tool doesn't detect covers and skips no pages, so a file that already has numbers gets a second layer in the same spot. To start numbering at the body, extract the cover away first with the extract/delete tool.
