Discount
"15% off", "¥50 off when you spend enough" and "15% off instantly" all work, and it also tells you the effective discount.
8.5 折 means original price × 0.85. "打 1 折" is 10% of the original price, not 1 yuan off — the most common misunderstanding about Chinese discounts.
When to use it
- A shop says 8.5 折, an app says 15% off and a promo says spend 300 save 50 — you want one final price and one effective discount rate to compare them.
- Before checkout you want to know what “second item half price” or “member 10% off, then another 20% off” actually leaves you paying.
When not to
- You need to know whether the list price was inflated before the sale: the tool only uses the price you type and cannot check price history, so a correct percentage can still sit on a fake original price.
- You need coupon thresholds, exclusions, tax or shipping: this is a single-price calculation, not a model of a marketplace's stacking rules — the checkout page is authoritative.
Prices and discounts are calculated in the browser only and are never uploaded or stored. Limits: one price at a time, with no check on whether the original price was inflated and no coupon thresholds, exclusions, shipping or tax; an amount-off discount larger than the price shows 0; 折 follows the Chinese convention, so 8.5 折 = price × 0.85.
Frequently asked
Is 8.5 折 the same as 15% off?
Yes. 8.5 折 = price × 0.85, which is 15% off; conversely, 15% off is (1 − 0.15) × 10 = 8.5 折. A common mistake is hearing “8.5 折” as “minus 8.5”: 399 at 8.5 折 is 339.15, not 390.5. Also remember that 1 折 is 10% of the price and 0.5 折 is 5% — “1 折” does not mean 1 yuan off.
What discount is “spend 300, save 50”?
At exactly 300 it is 250/300 = 8.33 折; at 600 it is 550/600 = 9.17 折; at 299 the threshold is not met, so there is no discount. The effective rate moves with the order value: the higher the threshold and the closer your basket is to it, the better the deal. To compare a spend-and-save promo with a straight discount, enter the expected basket in the amount-off mode and in the 折 mode and compare the effective rates.
Does 10% off then 20% off add up to 30% off?
No. 0.9 × 0.8 = 0.72, i.e. 7.2 折, which is 28% off, not 30%. Real orders often round at each step or apply the coupon before the percentage, so the total can differ by a few cents; some platforms also restrict stacking to full-price items. This tool gives the pure maths; the order page is the final word.
