Binary Encoder
Convert text into 8-bit binary groups, one group per UTF-8 byte, separated by spaces with leading zeros kept. Useful for seeing how characters look at the byte and bit level, explaining encoding basics, and checking bit masks or fields defined bit by bit.
How to use
- Type or paste the text you want to convert.
- Each UTF-8 byte is written as exactly 8 binary digits, with leading zeros kept.
- Copy the result for documentation, bit-mask work, or teaching material.
FAQ
Why is one Chinese character 24 bits?
A common Chinese character takes 3 bytes in UTF-8, and each byte is 8 bits, so it becomes 24 bits.
Do I have to keep the spaces?
The decoder groups digits by whitespace, so keeping the spaces is safest. Without them you have to split the string into 8-bit groups yourself.
Can I read the characters directly from the output?
No. Binary only shows the bit pattern of each byte; you need the UTF-8 rules or a decoder to read the text back.
