Base64URL Encoder

Encode text as URL-safe Base64: + becomes -, / becomes _, and trailing = padding is removed, so the string can go straight into a URL, a file name, or a JWT. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption, and does not hide anything.

How to use
  • Enter the text you want to encode.
  • The output uses - and _ instead of + and /, and drops trailing = padding.
  • Paste it into a query string, a file name, or the payload section of a JWT.

FAQ

How is it different from standard Base64?

The alphabet swaps + and / for - and _, and trailing = padding is removed so the string is not escaped or cut off in URLs and file names.

Do I need to add the = padding back before decoding?

Most decoders add it automatically, and the decoder page here restores it before decoding.

Can it encrypt content?

No. Base64 has no key, so anyone who has the string can decode it.
