Rewrite a Piece for Reading on a Phone
Added 2026-11-05
On a phone the unit of attention is the screen, not the page.
This piece will be read on a phone: [paste the first 300–500 characters or the whole structure]. Adapt it: 1) split paragraphs longer than three lines and mark the split points; 2) check that each paragraph opens with a conclusion or an action, and rewrite the ones that do not; 3) find where the reader needs a breath and mark short lines that deserve their own line; 4) name what gets skipped on a phone — dense numbers, long quotes, parenthetical asides — and give a replacement; 5) check whether each subhead stands alone and works as a table of contents; 6) suggest the resulting paragraph-length mix. Do not change the argument.

How to use
On a phone people scroll, and the paragraph is the unit of the scroll.
Try tweaking it
- Ask for three openings in different tones, then pick one.
- Replace "make it better" with concrete limits: length, reader, facts to keep.
What you should get
- A publishable draft, not an outline
- A short changelog: what changed and why
Common mistakes
- Letting it guess the facts, so plausible-looking sources get invented.
- Dumping the whole text with just "polish it" — the result still has no point.
How to check the output
- The conclusion comes first; deleting the opening paragraph does not break it.
- Every fact, number and quote traces back to the source text.
Where it works
- Good for: turning a rambling draft into a conclusion-first, shorter version.
- Watch out: keep sources and figures verbatim — do not let it invent citations.
