Learn a Tool by Rebuilding a Small Version
Added 2026-11-03
Shrink the feature to its minimum and rebuild it yourself; it teaches faster than docs.
I want to genuinely understand a tool or library (described below). Design a "rebuild the minimum" exercise: 1) state its core capability in one sentence; 2) define a minimal version I can rebuild in an hour, with one feature only; 3) list the three problems I must solve and how the tool solves them; 4) name the key gaps between my version and the real tool; 5) give one modification task that shows I really understand it. Do not send me to tutorials.

How to use
能复刻最小版本,才算真的懂它在做什么。
Try tweaking it
- Ask for one diagnostic question first to locate where you are stuck.
- Replace "explain it" with "give three progressive exercises; correct me after I answer".
What you should get
- A diagnosis of exactly where you are stuck
- A small set of self-checkable exercises
Common mistakes
- Asking it to explain from scratch, and still not knowing where you went wrong.
- Memorising the explanation as the answer, then failing on any variant.
How to check the output
- It names exactly where you are stuck instead of re-explaining everything.
- Exercises are graded and self-checkable.
Where it works
- Good for: diagnosing where you are stuck, then giving the smallest exercise instead of a lecture.
- Watch out: ask it to flag uncertainty rather than memorising a confident but wrong explanation.
